For Kachemak Heritage Land Trust to implement a meaningful and successful land protection program, every potential project must be rigorously evaluated for compliance with KHLT’s mission and goals as well as specific national land trust standards. Among other considerations, property evaluation includes site inspection and, when needed, advice from experts in pertinent fields such as biological and other natural sciences, and natural resource management.
Before accepting a conservation project, KHLT must ensure that the organization has the capacity to effectively manage the property over time. Furthermore, it must be demonstrated that conservation will result in real public benefit as defined by applicable Federal and State charitable trust laws.
